IT'S not every day you receive a letter from a member of the Royal Family, but children from a North Devon pre-school have managed just that.
Carol Gardner, who retired from Instow Pre-School two years ago, went back to help the children send cards to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, congratulating them on the birth of their first child Prince George.
The children put together a package to send to the palace, which contained self-portraits the children drew of themselves along with a handmade card.
The card was decorated with butterflies, feathers and a crown. But what the group was not anticipating was receiving a reply.
Carol said: "We received a reply from the Royal Family on August 22 thanking us for the card.
"It explained that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were most touched that we took the trouble to write to them."
Along with the card, a photograph of the Duchess as she left the hospital was printed on the back.
Carol added: "It's just such a surprise. I cried when I received the letter. Each child got an individual reply as well as myself. We never expected the reply we received."
