FOUR men had to evacuate their car in Bideford on Wednesday when it burst into flames.

The Volkswagen Polo caught fire on Kingsley Road outside Bideford Morrisons at 12.45pm.

Police and the fire service attended and confirmed no one was injured and the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

Julie Cripps, 38, from Westward Ho!, was one of the first people on the scene with her boyfriend.

She said: "We were driving into Bideford and suddenly noticed flames coming out of the car ahead. We stopped and told the boys in the car not to get back into the car as they were trying to get their things out of it.

"We were then trying to stop the traffic before the police and fire engine arrived at the scene. I have never seen a car fire before, it was quite scary."
