IT’S been a while since the Marisco Club has showcased live music. Eight years, in fact!
But this Friday, Mojo Hobo promotions company have imported one of the hottest ska acts in Bristol to perform at the Woolacombe discotheque.
Crinkle Cuts are a funk, ska and reggae band that were formed in mid-2012.
As an eight-piece band cutting their performing teeth in Bristol, they believed that there was always something that made them stand out from the crowd, and so set about using crowd interaction to help nurture their unique mix of styles.
Having not promoted live music since Meet Me At The Pub performed back in 2006, Marisco owner Joey Dicker is looking forward to bands returning to the stage.
“It’s been something I’ve thought about resurrecting for a while,” he explained.
“So when the Mojo Hobo promoters asked to book some great ska bands, it was too good an opportunity to pass up.”
Highlights of 2014 for Crinkle Cuts include playing sets at Glastonbury Festival and Eden Festival, as well as headlining Small World Spring Festival.
They are currently busy recording a new LP and have plenty of dates – including supporting Reef – booked up for the coming months.
With the help of a full brass section and lively vocalists, Crinkle Cuts promise to get the Marisco crowd moving with inventive songwriting and original cover versions.
“With resident DJ Hog 1 serving up some gypsy funk house, it will get people warmed up ready for some high-energy dance floor fun,” Joey continued.
Crinkle Cuts are at the Marisco Club, Woolacombe on Friday, September 5, 11pm. Entry: £5. Details: 01271 870648.
