If you are looking for fun seasonal things to do with all the family, then read our guide to Christmas events taking place this weekend.

FRIDAY, December 6

SOUTH MOLTON, Christmas Tree Festival at St Mary Magdalene Church, runs until December 9.

TORRINGTON, RHS Garden Rosemoor,display of decorated Christmas trees, daily until January 5. Normal garden admission applies. Details: 01805 626800.

SOUTH MOLTON, Winter Wonderland late night shopping event, including the lantern parade, traditional carols sung on the Square, Santa’s Grotto, live music, fair ground rides, a special Christmas pannier market and much more.

FREMINGTON, Christmas tree switch-on from 6pm, plus there will be carol singing, a brass band, live music, mulled wine, mince pies, a lantern parade and fireworks.

SATURDAY, December 7

BIDEFORD, Atlantic Village. Keep the kids entertained with the Heart Angels’ creation station where they can make Christmas cards and have their faces painted. Workshops are free.

TORRINGTON, RHS Garden Rosemoor, The Magic of Christmas – Music, Merriment and Mirth, 11am, 1pm and 2pm. A chance to go and meet Santa’s favourite elf and the Christmas tree fairy for stories and songs. Children of all ages welcome. Normal garden admission applies.

SOUTH MOLTON, Quince Honey Farm, Christmas fun day. Visit Santa in his grotto (£2.50 plus gift) plus lots of Christmas activities. Cost: £3.95 per child, adults and members have free entry.

BIDEFORD, The Big Sheep, Christmas Farmer’s Market, 9am-1pm. Perfect for getting your Christmas dinner essentials and Christmas tree.

FREMINGTON, St Peter’s Church, Christmas Tree Festival, 11am-6pm. More than 40 trees on display, all individually dressed and lit by local groups and organisations. Plus Santa will be there in his grotto. Refreshments will be available.

BUCKLAND BREWER, Traditional Christmas market, 11am-3pm. One of the largest village Christmas markets in Devon. More than 30 stalls, entertainment, crafts, food and drink.

NORTHAM Hall, Northam Lodge annual Christmas fayre, noon-3.30pm. There will be toys, cakes, planted tubs, books, jewellery, a raffle, refreshments and Santa’s grotto. Free parking is available at the Dental Centre and doctor’s surgery.

SUNDAY, December 8

EGGESFORD Garden and Country Centre, Christmas Gift Fair, 11am to 4pm. More than 25 stall holders. Perfect for finding unique Christmas presents.

TORRINGTON, Christmas Surprise Sunday from 11am to 7pm. Live entertainment, a fun fair, local craft stalls, a pannier market and Santa’s grotto followed by a candlelit parade and the switching on of the Christmas lights by the mayor.

SOUTH MOLTON Pannier Market, Christmas Fatstock Show, 10am - 4pm, complete with Exmoor ponies, cart horses, sheep, pigs, poultry and alpacas. TV celebrity Johnny Kingdom will be there. Food and drink aplenty and demonstrations of traditional crafts.

TORRINGTON, RHS Garden Rosemoor, The Magic of Christmas – Music, Merriment and Mirth (see Saturday for more information).

DULVERTON by Starlight starts at 2pm. Includes Santa’s grotto, lots of children’s activities, a winter market with lots of crafts and gifts for Christmas, live music and more. Switching on of the lights at 6.30pm followed by a spectacular firework display at 7pm.
