A BUDGET retail store is set to open its doors in Barnstaple creating 50 new jobs in the town.
Northern retailer B&M Stores has secured its new premises in the former Focus DIY store on Coney Avenue in Newport.
The 33,000sq ft store and garden centre will open on Saturday, November 9, and will offer a wide variety of branded and own label products including groceries , toiletries, paint, soft furnishings, home and gardening products.
Brian Spence, store manager, said: “We’re really proud to be opening our first store in Barnstaple, creating more than 50 jobs and playing our part in the local community.
“We are excited to get the doors open on November 9 and have a team of colleagues who are willing to provide great value products and world class service to our customers; we hope to offer them a convenient and easy shop.”
In November the Journal reported how the chain could be set to move into the building after a property investment firm acting on its behalf submitted plans to North Devon Council to change the conditions of use at the site.
B&M was formed in 1978 when its first store opened in Blackpool.
It now has more than 330 stores across the country, employs more than 10,000 staff and attracts around two million customers every week.
