A STEAM train would not be the form of transport chosen by most brides to get to their wedding.
But Zeya Pearcy wanted to stay true to her North Devon roots and decided to hop on the Lynton to Barnstaple railway to complete part of her journey to Christ Church in Parracombe.
Crowds at Woody Bay's Steam Gala last Saturday were treated to an unusual sight as Zeya boarded the train in her dress to travel the short journey to Killington Lane.
She said she felt famous as onlookers shouted and waved at her and her bridesmaids.
"It was such a nice day and everyone was so lovely. We only had the front part of the train but the rest of the carriages were packed with people.
"It really helped calm me and settle my nerves."
Zeya, 28, got off the train at Killington Lane where she was picked up by her car to complete the final stretch of her journey.
"The photographer wanted to do some pictures on the railway line," she said. "All the four bridesmaids had to help me lift the dress. It must have been quite a sight to behold."
Zeya said she first thought of using the railway on her wedding day after paying a visit to Woody Bay along with her two-year-old son, Robin, who loves trains.
Her mum, who had previously volunteered at the station, was also with her and mentioned to the station manager that Zeya was getting married.
He said they would love to give her a ride on the train, the only problem being that the Steam Gala was being held the same weekend meaning the station would be very busy.
Nevertheless, Zeya wasn't put off and decided it would be the perfect way to enjoy the sights of North Devon on her way to the church.
She said: "We have got a link to it anyway and it was just a really nice way to support them. They do so much amazing work up there and they were so lovely."
Tony Nicholson, press officer at Woody Bay station, said it was the first time since the railway line reopened that a bride has used it to travel to her wedding.
Zeya Pearcy, formerly Finnigan, married her partner, Ryan Pearcy, following his proposal to her on her birthday in March last year.
