BRAUNTON Parish Council has agreed to adopt a new and improved emergency plan to help combat future flooding in the village.

Councillors unanimously agreed to adopt the plan at a meeting of the full council.

The document, which has been several months in the making, sets out a clear response plan for a range of emergency situations.

The plan will now be distributed among residents in a bid to prevent the breakdown in communication which plagued the response to flooding in 2012.

Speaking at last week's meeting, district councillor Derek Spear said: "I reckon it's an example for the rest of the county. We should be proud of what we have here."

After adopting the plans, the parish council announced plans to hold an emergency evening in the coming weeks.
