SHEEP farmers from across the South West have a chance at an open day in South Molton next week to see how the British Wool Marketing Board looks after their interests.

The event, linked to the Campaign for Wool, is for anyone involved in the wool trade and especially for producers keen to see how and why their fleeces are priced.

Staff are staging a variety of displays and wool demonstrations and updated guide prices will be available for this year.

Visitors will be able to join in a competition to identify different breeds, see a sheet frame demonstration and have some shearing training.

Board members and staff are offering a guided tour of the Devon and Cornwall Wools depot on the Pathfields industrial estate.

The board's regional member, Brian Dallyn, plus regional committee members and the chief executive officer, Ian Hartley, will be at the depot with local staff.

"It's a chance for producers to talk to our members, see the demonstrations and to find out why we grade as we do," said the depot's manager Mike Berry.

The event takes place on Thursday, May 8, 10am-3pm. For more information contact Mike Berry on 122@british wool.org.uk or 01769 572178.
