Billy Tucker scored the winning goal as Barnstaple Town maintained their fine start to the season with a 1-0 victory at Chard tonight.
After Saturday's emphatic 8-1 win over Corsham Town, Barum made it six points from two games in the Toolstation Western League First Division, grinding out a result on a difficult playing surface.
Tucker, the summer signing from Ilfracombe Town, curled a free kick over the wall and into the bottom corner just after half time.
And a defence led by the experience of Aaron Harper-Penman and Darren Hawkings stood firm for a clean sheet.
Tom Bulley, the Barnstaple manger, said: "I couldn't have asked for a better start, especially coming away to Chard. It's always going to be a tough ground to go to with the slope.
"We got back to reality after the weekend. These games away from home, we are going to have to dig deep.
"In the first half, it was a bit of a battle and second half we got the ball down and got control of the game a bit more."
Barnstaple are back at home on Saturday when they host Brislington in the FA Cup extra preliminary round.
