CAPTAIN James Ford has praised the youngsters who have taken Bideford to the brink of promotion in the Francis Clark Devon Cricket League.
Only a highly unlikely set of results can deny them a place in the B Division next year.
Saturday’s three-run win over Axminster virtually guaranteed Bideford a top-two finish in the C Division – they need only one point from their three remaining matches to be absolutely sure.
One of the players to impress in the latest win was 14-year-old bowler Alex Hannam, who took one for 22 off six overs.
Among the other youngsters in the side, Fred King and Josh Atkinson, both 17, have taken the new ball all season.
Asked if the performances of his young players has been key to Bideford’s success, Ford said: “Absolutely, no doubt about it.
“I’ve kept the two bowlers I have opened with all through the season, two 17-year-olds.
“And in the last few weeks Alex Hannam and Alex Savage have come in and they don’t look out of place at all.
“I think they could all do it in the B Division too.”
Bideford will be at home against Yelverton on Saturday.
