Sean Downing proudly wore the England shirt for the first time when he played for an FA representative team at Newton Abbot last night.
The Bideford striker went on as half-time substitute, helping the FA win 5-0 against Devon at Coach Road.
Downing's Bideford team-mates Kevin Squire and Owen Howe, and Billy Tucker, of Barnstaple Town, were part of the Devon squad.
Staged by Devon FA to celebrate their 125th anniversary, the match was played at a high tempo.
Tristan Plummer, the Weston-super-Mare forward, converted two penalties to put the FA select team 2-0 up by half time.
Fellow Weston players Bradley Ash and Dayle Grubb stepped off the bench to score before Elliot Frear, the Salisbury City winger, capped an impressive performance with a fantastic finish.
Howe and Squire were part of a three-man attack for the county team alongside Teignmouth's Carl Cliff-Brown but the trio were rarely offered a sight at goal.
Watched by Paul Fairclough, the England C team manager, the FA side were eager to make an impression.
It looked a harsh decision when Matt Villis, the Tiverton Town defender, conceded a penalty for a trip on Naby Diallo, allowing Plummer to score from the spot.
Villis could have no complaints about the second penalty, though, after diving in on Plummer and giving the lively striker the chance to score his second goal.
The introduction of Downing at half time was heartening for the handful of Bideford supporters who had travelled from North Devon to watch.
Rather than his more familiar position on the wing, Downing was asked to play as a centre forward and he came close to claiming a goal in the England shirt.
Jon Viscosi, the Tiverton goalkeeper, denied him with a fine save and Downing had a goal ruled out for offside after a clever chip.
Devon manager Peter Buckingham sent on Tucker in place of Squire, giving the Barnstaple forward a chance to reprise his successful partnership with Howe from last season's county under-18s.
But the FA team continued to dominate possession and a superb curling finish from Frear from the corner of the box put the seal on a convincing win.
