A BIDEFORD nursery has been awarded the highest rating by Ofsted just months after it was fully opened.
Little Skippers foundation stage unit provides quality care for children aged two to five years old at East-the-Water Primary School.
In April the school extended the unit to include a nursery room for two-year-olds called 'Little Tiddlers'.
Then earlier this month Ofsted inspectors found the provision to be outstanding in all three areas accessed.
The areas include how well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend, the contribution of the early years provision to the well-being of children and the effectiveness of the leadership and management of the early years provision.
Headteacher Catherine Higley (corr) said: “Staff are over the moon with the outcome and we are very proud of what they have achieved.
“The staff in Little Skippers have worked so hard to successfully deliver a vision for our youngest children which supports the ethos of our whole school.
“Our staff have an excellent understanding of how young children learn, ensuring each child makes the best progress possible.”
Some of the areas the inspector particularly praised were the staff’s enthusiasm, social meal times and well planned activities.
