THE head teacher of Kingsley School, in Bideford, has this morning announced his retirement.

Andy Waters will leave the school at the end of this academic year next summer.

Mr Waters joined Grenville College in 2006 and then led the merger between the Grenville and Edgehill Colleges in 2009 to form Kingsley School.

Mr Waters said: "Merging two schools was not the easiest of tasks and there were some real challenges to overcome, but with the support of my staff and governors, parents and pupils, we faced those challenges and came through in very good shape.

"I'm proud to have been able to create a healthy, successful and vibrant new school in Bideford, and am delighted to hand it on to my successor in good financial shape, with an outstanding academic record, and with a bright future ahead.

"I've had an amazing few years here in North Devon and will take a multitude of happy memories with me."

The chairman of Kingsley governors David Pinney said: "Kingsley School is in a very good position, financially stable, working well in the Methodist Schools Trust, and we now plan to build on the sterling work Andy Waters has done for Kingsley School, for which we owe enormous gratitude.

The school is in a very good position and we look forward to recruiting a new headteacher to continue to grow and build this fabulous school."
