Bideford are through to second round qualifying in the FA Cup after a 3-0 win over Larkhall Athletic at the Sports Ground this afternoon.
An own goal from Larkhall goalkeeper Peter Hussey put the Robins ahead and Owen Howe doubled the advantage with a stunning volley before half time.
Connor Clifford made the game safe after home keeper Steve Oliver made some key saves to keep the visitors at bay.
In a meeting between two unbeaten teams it was Bideford's ruthlessness – so evident in the Calor League this season – that made the difference.
With five wins from five games in the Western League, Larkhall played slick football but Tyler Sibbick, their impressive striker, could find no way past Oliver.
There was little to choose between the sides in the first half until a mistake from Hussey in the 42nd minute. The keeper could only flap at a corner from Matt Bye and the ball trickled over the line off the far post.
If that goal was slightly fortuitous, the second was sheer class as Howe hit a ferocious left-footed volley back across the keeper from a narrow angle.
Without being at their best, Bideford went into the break with a 2-0 lead and they began the second half hungry for a third.
Sean Downing headed into the keeper's hands and slid a shot wide while Hussey was forced to push over a misdirected cross from Connor Clifford.
Sibbick continued to cause the home defence problems and the striker was forced wide by Oliver who then showed superb reactions to deny Jonny Davoile.
With both teams pushing forward, Clifford could only shot against the foot of the post from close range and Oliver again dashed from his line to thwart Sibbick.
Ross Lye, the Larkhall substitute, went close with a curling shot before Clifford made the game safe with the third goal on 78 minutes.
The visitors were exposed by a ball over the top and Clifford, the left back, was rewarded for his persistence, beating Hussey to the ball and tapping into the empty net.
There was still time for Sibbick to head a golden chance over and Oliver to deny the striker from point-blank range as Bideford stubbornly held out for their fourth clean sheet in five games.
They will look forward to Monday's draw for the next round before returning to league action on Tuesday with a trip to fellow unbeaten team Poole Town.
