Ben Gerring scored the only goal as Bideford stunned Calor League leaders Hemel Hempstead Town at the Sports Ground this afternoon.
The Robins produced one of their results of the season to bounce back from a 4-1 defeat to the same opponents on Tuesday.
Gerring – recently linked with a move to Hayes and Yeading United – showed his value to the team with a commanding display at the back.
And he followed up to score in the 41st-minute when a corner from Steve Orchard was headed towards goal by Matt Hockley and spilled by Laurie Walker.
Without Sean Downing, Owen Howe, Matt Bye, Craig Duff, Stephen Reed and Jack Furzer due to injuries and suspensions, the home side were in resilient mood.
Walker did well to deal with a number of free kicks and corners from Orchard in the first half as Bideford made a positive start.
As Hemel inevitably increased the pressure, the home team stood firm with Gerring and Rob Farkins excelling in defence and Matt Hockley working tirelessly in midfield.
Hemel's top scorer Ben Mackey was unable to connect properly from a cross from David King and Farkins got back to make a fine challenge after Lewis Toomey had taken the ball past keeper Steve Oliver.
After eight consecutive wins and 12 matches unbeaten, the leaders' run was finally ended. Bideford held out for a win which moves them back up to fourth ahead of the home match with fellow play-off contenders Poole Town on Tuesday.
Bideford: Steve Oliver, Nick Milton, Rob Farkins, Ben Gerring, Nick Barker, Ian Sampson, Steve Orchard, Matt Hockley, Graham Mercieca, Ethan Phillips, Kevin Squire. Subs: Richard Groves, Jordan Campbell, Monty Berrow.
