BARNSTAPLE have signed former Exmouth back-row forward Dave Kimberley.
He has been persuaded to have another season in National Three South West after leaving Exmouth following their promotion.
The move will reunite Kimberley with his former Cornish All Blacks team-mate Steve Perry, now joint head coach at Barnstaple.
He will be an important signing for Barnstaple with Kele Taofinu'u not involved this season, James Comber returning to Bude and Winston James, the captain, only available until Christmas before going to Australia.
Perry said: "Dave has got a huge amount of experience. He will help the side and support the youngsters in the team."
Barnstaple fielded two new forwards – prop Gordon Howells and lock Jerry Darley – and former Gloucester A wing Ryan Brend in Saturday's 24-12 defeat to Cornish All Blacks at Pottington Road.
Barnstaple led 12-5 after 22 minutes. Linford Brock opened the scoring when he got a lucky bounce from a punt by Perry and sprinted clear to score under the posts. Will Topps converted. Ben Smith scored the second try from a pushover wide on the right.
On Saturday Barnstaple are due to go to Bideford for a four-way fixture involving Devonport Services and Teignmouth (2.30pm).
Bideford's first pre-season game, against Old Redcliffians, was cancelled because the Bristol club could not raise a team.
