A former Barnstaple rugby captain is due to appear on a hit TV show and receive a special thanks for becoming a full-time carer to his paralysed girlfriend.
Neilson “Nelly” Webber, who lived in North Devon for several years before moving to Cornwall, will appear on Surprise Surprise on Sunday evening.
On the show, which is presented by Holly Willoughby, 24-year-old Nelly will receive a very personal message from his rugby idol.
His girlfriend, Carly Taylor, 24, of Crantock, was paralysed after she fell from a bridge in a Truro car park during a night out in 2011.
The talented sportswoman broke her neck and ended up paralysed from the shoulders down.
Following the accident Nelly, who captained Barnstaple in the 2011-12 season, became her full-time carer and devoted his life to looking after her.
The sports lecturer has raised thousands of pounds to support her and also for charity Spinal Research UK.
Last year he ran seven marathons in seven days – despite having never covered the 26.2-mile distance of a single marathon before.
The couple, who now live together in Cornwall, will appear on the hour-long show together. Carly will also receive a surprise gift.
Surprise Surprise, which gives heart-warming surprises to deserving individuals, was re-launched in 2012 after an 11-year hiatus.
