A PACKAGING firm in Barnstaple has announced a three-year partnership to help recycle 1,500 tonnes of pre-consumer cardboard a year.

Atlas Packaging, based at Roundswell, has teamed up with recycling firm Viridor who collect baled cardboard cut off-cuts to be sold on and made into books, boxes or other card products.

Jason Sharman, Managing Director at Atlas said: “70% less energy is used when making new paper and card from recycled stock than when using virgin pulp so it is great to know that we are doing what we can to support the environment.

“The high quality of the corrugated waste we produce also means that it is in demand in the manufacturing sector and we can get a good return on what is essentially a waste product.”

Dave Matthews, Viridor manager at the Martock paper and card recycling facility said: “We are delighted to be working with Atlas and helping them maximise their waste recycling.”
