KARL BAGGALEY ruled out Barnstaple Town's chances of taking second place in the Toolstation Western League First Division after a 1-0 defeat to Chippenham Park on Saturday.

A stoppage-time winner from Shane Blackmore at Mill Road ended Town's eight-game unbeaten run.

But Baggaley, the assistant manager, believes his team are still well placed to finish third.

Barnstaple were due to play at Warminster Town last night and have away games at Roman Glass St George on Saturday and Almondsbury UWE on Tuesday.

"April is a massive month," said Baggaley. "We have got eight games.

"You could say, technically, second place is still there but Shepton Mallet are too far ahead of us now.

"Realistically they have got a good shout of finishing runners-up and Bradford have run away with it.

"We are still looking at top three. We have got the games in hand and it's in our hands."

With Larkhall Athletic and Bristol Manor Farm applying to join the Calor League from the Premier Division, there could still be an opening for the third-placed team to gain promotion. But Baggaley and manager Barry Yeo are not getting carried away.

"We are just building for next season," said Baggaley. "We are planning for next season in the First Division.

"Whatever we get out of this season is a bonus."
