THE Barnstaple branch of Staples will be among 23 of the company's UK stores to close after Christmas.
A manager at Staples' Barnstaple store at Roundswell confirmed the branch would be closing its doors some time in January.
It is not known how many jobs will be lost as a result of the store's closure or which other stores around the UK are to shut.
A statement from Staples said the move was part of a long-term business plan: "In September, Staples announced a strategic plan to accelerate growth and better serve the evolving needs of customers.
"As part of this plan, we are reshaping our business in the UK to serve customers who increasingly shop with us online. We are actively working to support associates through this period of change.
"At the same time, Staples is investing in its online channel to provide customers a seamless shopping experience across our websites and retail store network.
"As the world's second largest internet retailer and leading brand in office products, Staples is committed to making it easy for customers to shop how and when they want.
"Despite these changes, we are confident we will continue to be our customer's trusted source for their business's needs."
Staples is one of the world's largest suppliers of office products serving businesses in 27 countries worldwide.
Set up in 1986, the company's headquarters are in Boston, America.
