The Barnstaple branch of Staples will be among 23 of the company's UK stores to close after Christmas.
A manager at Staples' Barnstaple store at Roundswell confirmed today the branch would be closing its doors come January.
It is not known how many jobs will be lost following the store closure or which other stores around the UK are to shut.
A request was made to Staples regarding the closure of the Barnstaple store, to which the following statement was given: "In September, Staples announced a strategic plan to accelerate growth and better serve the evolving needs of customers.
"As part of this plan, we are reshaping our business in the UK to serve customers who increasingly shop with us online. We are actively working to support associates through this period of change.
"At the same time, Staples is investing in its online channel to provide customers a seamless shopping experience across our websites and retail store network.
"As the world's second largest internet retailer and leading brand in office products, Staples is committed to making it easy for customers to shop how and when they want. In spite of these changes, we are confident we will continue to be our customer's trusted source for their business's needs."
Staples is one of the world's largest suppliers of office products serving businesses in 27 countries worldwide.
Set up in 1986, the company's headquarters are based in Boston, US.
