A popular High street shop in Barnstaple has reopened after it closed unexpectedly yesterday afternoon.
Customers and staff were evacuated from Boots sometime before 5pm. The Journal understands the closure was due to a problem with the store’s ceiling.
Staff, who were stood outside the shop at 5.30pm, were unable to comment. However, a sign on the window stated the premises would open at 8.30am today.
Bronagh Maguire, a spokeswoman from Boots, said: "At Boots UK the health and safety of our customers and colleagues is of the utmost importance to us.
"We can confirm that we closed our Barnstable store yesterday whilst maintenance checks were carried out. The store is now open and trading as usual."
