A GROUP of thespians will be switching Shakespeare for sub-Saharan Africa in December when they aim to climb mount Kilimanjaro.
Members of the Atlantic Coast Theatre and friends will set off on their mission on December 1.
They will climb the Rongai route which should take six days.
The group will be raising money for the theatre and a host of charities. Half the funds raised will be kept by the theatre and the other half will go to charities chosen by each individual climber.
The group has had help and advice from veteran explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who met them in Barnstaple.
Atlantic Coast secretary Val Lambeth, said: "He was really friendly but the first thing he said was 'you know more people die on Kilimanjaro than on Everest,' which got our attention."
The climbers are Anneliese Lambeth-Mansell, Sarah King, Phillip Goodenough, Michelle Beard, Sean Macauley, Hayley Grebby, Bernard Sanderberg , Ian Goodenough and Valerie Lambeth. Visit www.atlantic coasttheatre.co.uk for details.
