A new youth club in Appledore has had a flying start and has been helped by grants from two Torridge district councillors.
Appledore Kidz Club opened earlier this month and has already been a great success.
Councillors Andrew Eastman and Barry Edwards clubbed together and each donated £300 from their annual grant allowance to make sure the new club got off to the best possible start.
Staffed by local volunteer mums, the Club is now open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3.30 until 5.30.
On Wednesdays they provide a hot meal chosen and partly cooked by the children themselves.
Chair of the group that set up the club Pene Haynes said: “We’ve used the money to provide training courses for the volunteers - First aid, food hygiene and child protection - are all critical to the set up and running of the Club.
“ It is so wonderful to be part of such a great community so well supported by the local council and community leaders. I cannot say how grateful we are to Andrew Eastman and Barry Edwards for all their support.”
Torridge’s councillor community grant scheme is still open to applications – contact Malcolm Harris on 01237 428756 or email email@example.com for more information.
