A road in Barnstaple is expected to be closed for the rest of the day after a water main burst earlier this morning.

Abbey Road in Pilton is closed in both directions after the eight inch water main burst at around 10.15am.

A member of the public rang 999 and reported the incident at around 10.20am.

The road is currently closed between the Under Minnow Road junction and the Pathfield Lawn junction.

South West Water said the road closure is likely to be on-going for most of day.

Those wishing to gain access to local primary schools are being advised to travel along Fair View.
