THE A399 South Molton to Ilfracombe road will be closed for repairs about a mile north of Aller Cross between Monday, February 9 and Friday, February 13.

Devon County Council has been working on the road since November as part of a £170,000 improvement scheme.

A culvert taking water under the road has been repaired and two retaining walls have been built to support the road which was at risk of slipping away. The wall and culvert work has used reinforced concrete with local stone facing up to three metres high. New verges and kerbing will help protect the new walls from heavy traffic.

Devon county councillor Jeremy Yabsley said: "I'm sure local residents will appreciate the fact that this scheme is making the road much safer and will be relieved that once this final section of work has been carried out we will have a much improved road. This closure cannot be avoided at this narrow stretch and it is vital for the completion of this scheme."

The signed diversion route will take drivers on route to Brayford or Ilfracombe from Aller Cross into Barnstaple and via Bear Street and Goodleigh Road to Bratton Fleming to Four Cross Ways on the A399 and then on to Brayford and Ilfracombe direction.
