THE latest novelty burger to be invented by a Barnstaple restaurant takes inspiration from the world-famous 50 Shades Of Grey books.
The 15 Shades Of Bacon burger features exactly that – 15 different types of bacon-inspired foods.
It is the latest culinary creation from Matt Spencer, owner of the Custom House which opened on The Strand in March.
The new limited edition burger will feature a variety of bacon including chicken-fried bacon, unsmoked back bacon, unsmoked streaky bacon, smoked back and streaky bacon, turkey bacon, prosciutto, bacon infused with cream cheese, pancetta, mortadella, a bacon burger and flat sausage.
It will be finished with bacon frazzles, bacon-dusted chips and baconnaise – a flavoured mayonnaise which Matt has imported from America.
Matt said the burger is “something for the blokes” following the hype around the 50 Shades Of Grey series.
He said: “My head chef came up with the initial idea and it was to coincide with the hype around 50 Shades Of Grey. It’s a bit quirky, a bit different.
“We’re giving something back for the blokes, but women are more than welcome to try it.”
Proceeds from the limited edition burger, which will be available at The Strand eatery throughout November, will go to the North Devon Hospice.
Matt said: “The charity is close to my heart. My mum was there last year and they did a great job of looking after her and I just wanted to raise some money for them.”
The 50 Shades Of Bacon burger is the latest in a string of unique burgers created by the team at Custom House and follows the Totem burger and the super-hot chilli Hell burger.
It costs £15, with £5 from each going to North Devon Hospice. It will be available at the Custom House throughout November.
