A 44-year-old man from Meeth died in a road traffic collision yesterday evening.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened a around 4.20pm on the A386 near Lower Lodge in Merton near Okehampton.
A police spokesman said the man was two and a half miles away from his home.
He was driving a Suzuki GSXR and was travelling from Meeth towards Torrington along with a group of other motorcyclists.
The man is believed to have lost control of his motorcycle on a bend and collided with a bank.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his family were informed.
No other vehicles were involved.
An accident investigation closed the road until 11.35pm last night.
The Serious Collision Investigation Unit are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101 quoting log number 639.
