AROUND 30 litres of petroleum gas leaked from a fuel tank at a farm yard near Beaworthy yesterday prompting police to put a 200 metre cordon in place.
Fire crews from Hatherleigh, Holsworthy and Okehampton were called to the farm in Highampton at around 5.30pm.
Firefighters said a valve on the fuel tank, which stored liquefied petroleum gas, had accidentally been dislocated causing the leak.
Police were called to the scene and officers immediately put a 200 metre cordon in place and closed a nearby road.
Firefighters used a main water jet to depress the gases which were pouring from a hose on the ruptured tank. They also used a nearby water hydrant and doused the scene to dispel the gas.
A thermal imaging camera was also used and a full check of the vehicle and surrounding area was carried out to ensure it was safe.
It is understood nobody was injured in the incident.
