JUST over one percent of the South West's dairy farmers left the industry last year according to latest figures from the industry's not for profit organisation, DairyCo.
The regional figure for England's far west region showed 1.2 per cent fewer dairy farms compared with January 2013.
Across the country numbers in England and Wales dropped by 241 from 10671 in January 2013 to 10,430 producers as this year started.
The biggest drop (4.7 per cent) was in the Eastern region. England's overall producers decreased from 8,772 in January 2013 to 8,558 in January 2014.
More producers came out of the industry in the North, North West and Midlands, between them accounting for a drop of 160 farms.
